It was wonderful to welcome hundreds to our community open day at our new cycling track in September, and then see cycling hero and World Record Holder Chris Boardman MBE come along to officially cut the ribbon and declare the track open the following Friday.
It was, he said, a track which would break down barriers, bring people together and see more people enjoying the benefits of two wheeled travel.
Chris Boardman is, of course, an Olympic Gold Cycling Medalist and World Record holder for cycling on both track and road, was joined by funders, partners, local community and cycling groups as well as Jon Dutton OBE who is CEO for British Cycling and the RT Hon Jesse Norman MP - Minister of State in the Department for Transport with responsibility for active travel including cycling.
If you haven't seen it already, the new 1km, 4m-wide track gives cyclists of all ages and abilities the chance to learn to ride, train at every level, and enjoy their sport without having to negotiate busy roads.
“What an amazing facility this is," said Chris Boardman, who was representing Sport England and British Cycling at our special event. "This excellent cycle track, based in the beautiful city of Hereford, will enable the next generation of cyclists, regardless of age or background, to enjoy the sport I love so much."
